The device supports processing multiple samples simultaneously, helping pigeon racing enthusiasts select potential male and female pigeons to form racing teams, and allowing meat pigeon farmers to separate pigeons by sex.
bird DNA Test is a professional detection device based on real-time quantitative PCR technology, mainly used to analyze the genetic information in pigeon DNA samples to achieve sex identification and genotyping related to flight ability. The device, priced at 68,000 yuan, consists of a four-channel 48-well quantitative PCR instrument and a portable accessory box, featuring high throughput, high precision, and ease of operation.
Regarding sex identification, pigeons are monomorphic birds, and it is difficult to distinguish males and females by appearance in young pigeons. Traditional manual identification methods require pigeons to grow to 4.5 to 5 months of age, with an accuracy rate of only 70% to 80%. The DNA identification instrument detects sex chromosome genotypes; female pigeons have a CHD genotype of W/Z, while males have a Z/Z genotype. Samples are collected using oral swabs, causing no damage to the pigeons and making the sampling process simple and quick.
In flight performance assessment, the instrument can simultaneously detect multiple functional genes related to racing pigeon performance. The homing ability DRD4 index is related to pigeon direction recognition and homing instinct; the endurance LDHA index reflects muscle energy metabolism efficiency; and the cryptochrome CRY1 gene affects navigation ability and circadian rhythm regulation. Genotyping of these genes provides pigeon fanciers with a scientific basis for selection and pairing, moving away from the traditional reliance on pedigree and experience.
In racing pigeon applications, this equipment helps lofts select individuals with superior genetic potential from the young pigeon stage, enabling targeted team formation and improved racing results. In meat pigeon farming, farmers can determine the sex of squabs during the egg-laying stage, cull male squabs, or separate young breeding pigeons by sex for precise pairing after sexual maturity.
