The Snow Level Sensor is a high-precision, high-reliability environmental monitoring device based on ultrasonic distance measurement principles, specifically designed for automated and continuous measurement of snow depth.
Its working mechanism is based on the "time difference method" in physics. The sensor probe emits a beam of high-frequency ultrasonic pulses inaudible to the human ear toward the snow surface below. When the sound waves encounter the snow surface, they reflect back, and the resulting echo is received by the probe. The high-precision clock circuit inside the sensor accurately calculates the time taken for the ultrasonic waves to travel from emission to reception. Since the propagation speed of ultrasonic waves in air is known at specific temperatures, the vertical distance from the sensor to the snow surface can be calculated using the formula: distance = sound speed × time/2. Finally, by subtracting this real-time measured distance from the preset sensor installation height (reference plane), accurate snow depth data is obtained.
The device features low power consumption, making it ideal for long-term, unattended automated monitoring at field stations using solar power supply systems.
Equipped with a standard RS485 communication interface, it supports universal protocols such as Modbus, facilitating integration into various data acquisition systems. With a minimum data interval of 0.2 seconds, it enables high-frequency data collection.
To ensure measurement accuracy, open and flat locations should be selected for actual installation, with no obstructions such as trees or power lines directly above or near the sensor.
The installation height of the sensor probe from the ground must be within a certain range, between 20cm and 200cm, with a recommended distance of 100cm. The measurement area below should be level, free from tall weeds, rocks, or other strong reflection interference objects.
The mounting bracket must be strictly kept level; otherwise, measurement errors will be introduced.

Rainwater conditions refer to the real-time status and changing trends of hydrological elements such as precipitation, water level, and flow. They are the core basis for water resource management and disaster prevention and mitigation. Precipitation replenishes surface and groundwater sources in the...
In the photovoltaic field, "black heart" is a serious quality issue, manifested as the luminous intensity of some areas inside the photovoltaic module being significantly lower than the normal level, presenting black or dark areas. This indicates that the performance of the battery cells i...
Traditional meteorological monitoring often relies on large, fixed national-level weather observation stations. While these stations provide extremely accurate data, they also suffer from high construction costs, low density, and limited coverage. With social development, our demand for meteorologic...
