African swine fever virus detection is a portable quantitative fluorescence PCR device, comprising a 4-channel, 16-well PCR instrument and a portable accessory case. Designed for conducting viral detection assays, it can be operated within a laboratory setting or deployed for field-based scientific testing at locations such as breeding farms and slaughterhouses; when paired with the appropriate reagents, it enables rapid qualitative detection.
African swine fever virus detection is built upon real-time quantitative fluorescence PCR technology, utilizing fluorescence excitation and acquisition methods to monitor the viral detection process in real time. The instrument plots the data generated during the experiment as fluorescence curves, displaying them instantly on its touchscreen interface; it then performs data fitting and analysis to generate a final experimental report in PDF format. The device features four independent LED light sources and four independent photodiode detectors, enabling simultaneous and precise fluorescence detection across all four channels, thereby allowing for the parallel processing of multiple samples. During detection, the PCR technology specifically amplifies minute quantities of target DNA by a factor of millions; the entire process is monitored in real time via fluorescence signal intensity to calculate the Cycle threshold (Ct) value of the viral nucleic acid within the sample. This data aids in determining whether an animal is in the early, acute, or recovery phase of infection, thereby providing critical data for epidemiological assessment and outbreak management. The system primarily consists of a gene amplification thermal cycling unit, a real-time fluorescence detection system, a microcircuit control system, and accompanying analysis software.
The core strengths of this device lie in two key areas: temperature control precision and portable design. The temperature control system utilizes imported TEC semiconductor cooling modules, achieving a temperature control accuracy of ±0.1°C and well-to-well uniformity of ±0.3°C. It exhibits minimal performance degradation over extended periods of use, with calibration cycles lasting up to several years. Heating and cooling rates can reach speeds of approximately 7°C per second, significantly reducing the time required for a single detection run. The instrument is compatible with both 0.2 mL single tubes and 8-strip tubes, and supports various temperature control protocols, including standard PCR and touchdown PCR. The complete unit weighs approximately 7.1 kg, with dimensions of 270 × 352 × 195 mm; it comes equipped with a portable accessory case, facilitating convenient on-site testing at locations such as breeding farms, slaughterhouses, and food processing plants. The device supports independent operation via its integrated touchscreen interface, and can also be remotely controlled using dedicated computer software. Data can be exported directly via a USB interface or transmitted to a cloud server via Wi-Fi.
In practical applications, the African swine fever virus detection device enables the rapid, quantitative diagnosis of a wide range of livestock diseases, including African Swine Fever, Avian Influenza, Classical Swine Fever, Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), and Pseudorabies. This device is suitable for use by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, livestock bureaus, inspection and quarantine agencies, as well as livestock farms, slaughterhouses, and meat processing enterprises. For livestock farmers, the device allows for testing to be conducted without the need to rely on professional laboratories; its intuitive user interface ensures that even new users can quickly master its operation, while built-in, pre-set experimental program templates enable testing to be initiated with a single touch. The accompanying fluorescent PCR detection kits for the African Swine Fever virus have all received product approval from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and comply with relevant national testing standards; however, users are required to undergo appropriate training prior to operating the equipment.
